Bridge of Hope Educational Services
Hope Education, a ministry of Bridge of Hope, exists to transform our community by nurturing, encouraging, and empowering students of all ages through personalized instruction. Since education makes the most sense when integrated with real life activities, we provide opportunities for people of all ages to explore their interests and take their learning to the next level. In addition to our Adult Education classes and our after school sessions, we offer one-on-one instruction by appointment.
Students meet individually with our education director to develop some learning goals for their class time hours
Students meet individually with our education director to develop some learning goals for their class time hours. GED students are encouraged to find an outside mentor who can help to build motivation when the work gets difficult.
We use the Barton Reading & Spelling Program (an Orton-Gillingham based reading curriculum) to tutor dyslexic students, incorporating the use of helpful technology tools.
We believe in the potential of all students, young and old. Too many students have not achieved their learning goals, and often through little fault of their own. As our volunteer tutors work one on one with students, both the volunteer and the student are challenged to learn from each other. Working to improve reading skills has become a primary focus for most of our students.
Using the latest technology, even students who struggle to read can listen to text and students who struggle with writing can speak their paragraphs. Then we can focus on improving editing and organizational skills. By allowing students to work at their true comprehension level, they are motivated to keep working as they see their thoughts on paper.
